Identity
I've learned a great deal about gender and identity over the past few years. Even though it was out of necessity, I'm truly grateful for all that I've learned, the awareness I've gained and now can turn around and teach others.
No matter what age, I feel it's important to listen, acknowledge, and accept what people/children are telling you. Usually if someone is coming forward and telling you something so personal about themsleves, it is not a phase, or peer pressure trying to fit in. But even if it is, isn't it better to be be loving and supportive of your loved one than to dismiss, deny, and shun?
Unfortunately so many in this world, our country, our state, our own town even feel very differently. There have been recent discussions in our local district parent groups that are chilling to the bone... From people wanting to be elected to our school board! It is quite sad and eye opening.
Trust what is being told to you, accept that these kids know themselves better than you can ever know them, at any age. Support them and love them. They need you now more than ever so they can live and be loved as their authentic selves and
