They are ALWAYS there. Living a life of "I get to" instead of "I have to".
I'm not the best at quickly changing gears and schedules. And I'm really not my best when I need to reschedule lessons with teachers multiple times, especially if it is out of my control.
Today is one of those days. Yesterday I was asked to drop my already-scheduled lessons to be available to assist at an elementary school today... Which most likely means that I will be a substitute for a K-5 classroom.
This is completely out of my comfort zone as I was never an elementary teacher! Lunch count? Lining up? Classroom jobs? Guided reading...? Oh boy! I bow down to our elementary teachers on the daily with all they do.
So... I wasn't too thrilled with the news yesterday. I needed a mindset shift and a voice of reason. Grateful for my fellow instructional coaches who are just that.
Instead of saying "I have to cover a class", I am now saying "I get to be an elementary teacher for a day!". I get to help out already stressed out colleagues so they aren't spread even more thin. I get to be there so a teacher can take a needed personal, special needs, or sick day.
And I need to buckle up because Mondays and Fridays in the spring are always popular sub days and in this un-precedented school year, there most likely will be more of the same as we head towards June.
But it's ok, I got this. I just hope it's not Kindergarten. Those 5 & 6 year olds scare me! 😜
But no matter what, it's important to always live a life of "I get to" instead of "I have to". And of course, always counting my
